Team USA arrives in Siberia with star studded cast. OKRTC sends Nick Heflin
Krasnoyarsk is is home to one of wrestling’s most sought after prize, the circular based trophy of the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix. But it is not the trophy that is coveted, it’s the experience and bragging rights of having challenged the worlds best in one of the worlds harshest environments.
The OKRTC’s Nick Heflin, along with Olympic Champion Kyle Snyder, World Champion Logan Stieber, Olympian Frank Molinaro, World Bronze Nick Gwiazdowski, and former collegiate stars such as Kyle Dake and David Taylor will join forces to take on the field at the Ivan Yarygin Sport Complex this Friday-Sunday.
“The Yarygin is special, it tests a lot more than ones wrestling ability”, said OKRTC Head Coach Eric Guerrero. “First, it’s difficult travel, whether you are coming from Oklahoma, Dagestan, Ossetia or Pennsylvania the travel is multiple connections through Moscow, a change of airports from international to domestic, eventually arriving half way on the other side of the globe.”
The event is held in honor on Russian great Ivan Yarygin. Krasnoyarsk was the training home of Buvaisar and Adam Saitiev, both Olympic Champions, as well as many other Dagestani and Chechen Russian wrestlers.
“Regardless of the results which returns, you add layers to yourself as a competitor after this event. A layer of toughness, a layer of fortitude, a layer of understanding of what it really takes to be the worlds best” said Coach Guerrero.
“It’s a must attend on our RTC schedule and will remain on our schedule. You cannot become great buy playing games with yourself as to where you stand as a competitor... and we’re about to get down to brass tax”.
